Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then located numerous other marked automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials report initial examinations indicate the liquid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; officials are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for details.
A high-ranking representative stated the attack left him without words and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
