'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith renews clash with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he recalls the thrilling dying seconds of Swansea's stunning fightback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. That match wrapped up with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses after the post-goal scrum.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith struck the post with a speculative effort from 25 yards, and his teammate promptly converted the rebound before charging toward the crowd to revel in the moment, with fans congregating around the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The result sealed an unbelievable turnaround given the Welsh side had found themselves down 2-0 deep into the final 45 minutes. In the euphoria, there was some unintended consequences. He shared, "There was a spectator sort of calling out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're humans, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

The result booked a next round fixture at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith pushed hard at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with the London side in February. The athletic midfielder had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in remarkable manner, with a teammate's volley from about way out going in via the woodwork and the City goalkeeper. Many argued that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've credited him for having a go from that far out," commented Galbraith, who started in midfield before moving to right flank after Orient changed shape. That meant competing with Jack Grealish, with whom he traded tops, and the winger was among the opposition who paid tribute to the way Orient played positively.

City's Quality

"Physically they are exceptional but even the fundamentals and simple things, they can just execute repeatedly," he explains. "It appears that they never miss a pass and they know how to manage and slow down a game. You can think you're doing well and then without warning they will just fizz a pass between defenders without you even spotting it. You have to be alert at all times of the game. It takes a resilient mindset and attention just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

Swansea sought to acquire Galbraith in January and secured his signature to bring him in in the summer in a significant move. He made a name as a fans' favourite across a couple of years at Orient and has quickly achieved similar status in his new home. At the London club he joined forces once more with his former manager, who four years ago gave Galbraith his first extended run in senior football on loan at Doncaster from United. Then came a spell at League Two Salford City, before he permanently left Old Trafford.

Learning Curve

"I was probably a bit naive going into men's football. I think a lot of players would say development squad matches is completely distinct. Sometimes it appears the ball is moved without real physicality. You see few physical contests. Once you start playing men's games you have to learn quickly."

National Team Success

He has shown that growth for both domestically and internationally, performing well for the Green and White Army, who could still reach the international competition next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has featured in the recent fixtures, including both legs encounters against the German national team. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, offered the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he manipulates the ball and his knack for a decisive through ball.

Early Days

This represents a remarkable path for the player from the local area in Glengormley, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who was raised observing his dad, the elder Galbraith, also a midfielder, play for his father's team.

Red Devils Debut

His sole appearance for Manchester United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a continental tournament trip to Astana, where they played on an plastic turf and the venue ceiling was sealed owing to temperatures of bitter cold. "That proved to be a long trip and it was cold out there," he says, grinning. "The preceding week, myself and quite a few of the young lads practiced as a group, so that aided our adjustment. Just to travel with the first team and get a couple of minutes at the end was unbelievable."

Moving On

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he transferred from aged his mid-teens? "The decision proved quite easy, because I arrived at the moment where I knew I wouldn't break through at first-team level. I'm hugely grateful for the time I spent there but it got to the point where I thought I needed to go my own route, move to a lower level and play first-team games. Now I'm gradually working my way back up."

New Environment

It is the middle of the day at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has an appointment at the early evening: a road rules assessment, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Prior to relocating to his new neighborhood, the 24-year-old was a constant rider in Swansea's dubbed fun bus, a minibus driven by academy staff, the transport team, which shuttles players to and from practice and games.

"I travel with Gonçalo Franco, another squad member, Malick Yalcouyé – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has got his license. It's enjoyable to socialize with the guys but I'm hoping to be the subsequent individual out of the minibus and behind the wheel. Franco enjoys practical jokes; he's always up to all sorts."

Fan Interactions

When he represented Leyton Orient, Galbraith would blend in with supporters on the Tube after commuting at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
